Oil on Canvas 2014
This painting is one of those pieces I was so happy with I thought, “Wow, this would look so incredible at larger scale, so I painted it larger in blues (‘Clear Skies’). I do paint a lot of smaller pieces, sketches to experiment, and when I am working outside with oil, the medium and the color, are really the truth in this piece especially. Crimsons, reds, ochres and yellows… scraping, rag rolling, and experimenting with colours. May gray in San Diego can surprise us with some pretty great skies in the evening, so I always have a canvas at the ready, and with this piece I opted for a limited warm palette. This little piece with a nice rich wood frame with a darker stain would add such a nice pop of colour to a corner or small space with a favorite chair.
