“Morning Mist”
One of the first morning abstracts I painted out west. Fall days (Oct – Dec) seem to be the warmest in my experience. One incredible fall morning not long after we moved to San Diego, exploring and visiting all of the beaches we could on the weekends; we went to a random (to us at the time) beach off Coastal Highway 101 and the morning mist was so beautiful. The summer mornings back east are sultry and the sea a silvery blue, here in SoCal the mornings are cool and misty… the midst against the bluffs the smooth rocks along the shore and the beautiful surf was just so different than what we were used to. Everything was white with the golden orange colors of the bluffs, the sky resembling a pastel of soft blue whenever the mist dissipated enough to reveal the sky. Inspiration for so many of my paintings. We were at South Carlsbad State Beach North Ponto, the kids swam for hours, at low tide the beach is expansive the mist just makes everything glow. I can look at this piece and it takes me back to that quiet glorious morning.
