‘Sunset’ was / is a companion piece to ‘Sunrise’.  This painting was created at the same time, the same process – thin layers(and layers) of acrylic wash.  On easels next to each other as a I painted the murals.  The colors in sunset are vibrant, depicting a sultry summer day when the air is dripping at the end of a beautiful long day on the beach.  Those days where the only place to be is next to the water.  Sunset is warm where as Sunrise depicts the cool early morning before the sun wakes up as we gather on the beach to await its arrival.  The two were painted together yet stand on their own.  One of my favorite quotes comes to mind, “…there’s a sunrise and sunset everyday…”  the colors are different every day and the only way to know that is to be there no matter where you are!  As you look through the pages of my work there are many variations of the sunrise and sunset: in the desert, the mountains, hiking, road trips, the east coast the west coast, the Great Lakes, the gulf, the Outer Banks, Ocracoke Island and more.  Colors of a million memories.  Anywhere and everywhere.  House rules on vacation have always been to watch the sunrise and sunset together.  My mother said the sweetest thing on our last vacation together a view days in as I was rounding up youngsters going in all directions making our way to the bay for the sunset  – “Suzie you have a poetic soul.” It’s something that I will carry with me and cherish always; watching sunrises and sunsets everywhere!
