Original sold, oil painting was on handmade panel on reclaimed wood.
A monochromatic study of a fog bank rolling in from the coast. The sky was magnificent. We are about 10 miles inland from the ocean and can see water straight out from the house, so we get all the atmospheric conditions. Our first year here we had a rare thunderstorm and the thunder was so loud. Storms seem a lot bigger rolling in from that tremendous Pacific Ocean! Sometimes the fog completely enshrouds the low lying areas around us and it’s surreal. I mixed my palette quickly and worked right out in the backyard hoping to capture all of the blue shades and tones. The smooth panel made blending so much fun, there are not a lot of visible drips on this piece it’s a lot of brushwork, blending and buffing out then adding more colour with a predominantly blue palette, darkening the shades with oranges and reds. There are touches of light where the sun was trying to shine through the clouds and it reminded me of waves.
